Uncle Nick,

It is hard to find the words. What do you say to such an amazing and inspirational man?  I know that I will miss you and think about you every day. I will carry with me forever, in my heart, many great memories and moments we shared. I feel so lucky to be your niece and so proud to call you my uncle.
There will be many 'big' moments in my life that you will miss. Moments that I always dreamed you would be there for, like my engagement, my wedding, and having my own children. But I am comforted knowing that you and I were able to share so many other great memories. 
I loved all of the times I slept over at yours and Aunty Mary's house. It was so much fun for me, because I knew we would eat good Italian food, laugh until our stomachs hurt, and talk about all of your adventures with your storytelling. That was truly a gift you had, telling amazing stories. Do you remember when you would start telling a story and I would say, 'No, uncle Nick, you already told me that one!!' You would say, 'Tanya, wait, just listen…' And I would listen, because I trusted you. Somehow, the story that I thought I had already heard was really a completely different tale. How could one person have so many stories? 
The grocery shopping trips to Highland Farms were great too. You and I both loved food, so we loved being there with Aunty Mary. She picked produce for hours and stood at the deli counter for what seemed like forever, but when we got home, we were always rewarded with that tasty sausage that you would cut into slices and peel for me. We would alternate eating slices and then when it was too late, Aunty Mary would notice almost the whole thing gone and yell at us because it was too much to eat at one time. We would just look at each other and you would lift your brow and make a silly face and I would laugh.
How many treats could a young girl eat? The endless walks we would take to Macs, from the old house, all to get me one treat. We walked down the street and down that pathway, cross the street and to the plaza. On the way there, you always confirmed with me that I could buy 1 treat, no more. Once in the store, I had some way of making an excuse or coming up with a story for why I was in need of more than only 1 treat. Some of those stories included; needed one treat that was chocolate and one that was candy, one extra was needed for Giovanni, I would need one for later. Who knows what I would say, but you never said no. You never questioned me. I will never forget that. 
As I grew older, I remember coming over to the house and walking into the house to see you sitting in your special chair. I will never forget the way you would greet me every single time I saw you, no matter what. I would walk in and say, 'Hey Uncle Nick!' You would look up at me and with the biggest, most beautiful smile, you would say 'Hi Bella!' I loved that. Even if I called the house and you answered, that is how you greeted me. You were always sure to make the ladies in your life feel special and you always did that with me.
	You were such a strong man. I wish I had your strength and courage. You never gave up and you never complained. You were so good to Aunty Mary and I will never forget the loving look you had in your eyes when you looked at her. What an amazing Uncle you were. I wish others could have known you the way that I did. 
We will meet again Uncle Nick, one day in Heaven. And I know that you will be waiting to greet me at the gates with your beautiful smile. I promise to take care of Aunty Mary and I know you will always be with her.

I have decided to participate in this ride to raise funds for cancer because of my father. My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer about two years ago. His strength, courage and faith have been an example to everyone who knows him. He has defied every diagnosis and every prognosis. He is my real-life hero and I will be thinking of him with every pedal stroke I make during my ride. Anyone who receives a diagnosis of cancer should have the exemplary medical care that my father received through his journey. It's because of the medical professionals and my father's lion-heart spirit that he was able to endure nine surgeries. Dad continues to heal every day - and every day has been a blessing to us all.
 

 The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting The Princess Margaret, is a cycling journey from Toronto to Niagara Falls that I'm embarking on to fight cancer. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made!

-	Born in Boiano Campobasso on December 5th, 1932
-	Kind of a sickly kid, special food
-	At around 11 years old his health came around and he developed a voracious appetite
-	Developed a reputation as a food thief in the house 
o	Apple key
o	Hanging sausage
o	Sausage  in clay pots
-	At the age of 19 he made the voyage across the ocean to come to Canada.  Appetite followed him on to the boat.
o	Asked waiter for more pasta
-	Developed a reputation as a jokester
o	People vomiting
-	He moved in with his older brother Pasquale and his cousin
o	They took it easy on him for the first 2 weeks
-	Papa hated Canada and vowed to return to Italy as soon as he earned $1000.
-	Bought a pickup truck 
-	Humpty Dumpty potato chips, welding night school
-	Got in with Massey Ferguson
-	Papa loved to dance so he and a friend would go out dance halls.
-	Met my mother around 1960, married August 19, 1961.
-	They had 3 children
-	Papa always had a very clam disposition and was good at listening and giving advice.  He helped quite a few people when they came with their problems.
-	In the early 1980's mamma became a Christ follower
-	Papa suspicious that surely my mother had been brainwashed began going to this new church with the intent of getting her out only to become a Christ follower himself after 3 or 4 visits.
-	Eventually we all became Christ followers because of them
-	3 years ago papa went through a tremendous ordeal 
o	10 surgeries in 3 months
o	Meningitis
o	Pneumonia
-	Ultimately he ended up in a wheel chair unable to come home
-	Papa was happy though
o	He was in a safe place
o	He had Momma
-	Papa came out to mine and Linda's houses regularly and we brought him to many family functions.
-	There was no doubt in our minds that God sustained him through the surgeries then gave him comfort and contentment to live out the rest of his life.
