BURWELL, Ouida - Suddenly on March 27, 2012, at the Leisure World care facility in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Ouida was born on April 6, 1925, in Westport, Ontario, to Reverend Frederick and Ella May Strange. She is predeceased by her sister, Dreda Rupert. Ouida leaves behind her loving children, Guy (Margie) Shulhan, Suzanne (Steven) Hummell and Donna (Hal) Scher. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Stephanie and Mike Shulhan, Hadley Hummell (Chris Zielinski), Nick Hummell (Caitlin Watt), and Marc (April) Hummell, as well as her great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Olivia Zielinski, Katie and Ashley Hummell, and Chantal and Curtiss Clayton. Ouida is also fondly remembered by her late husband Hugh’s children, Bruce (Janet) Burwell, Rebecca (Leigh) Klotz-Burwell and Sarah (Alex) Inch and their children: Tori and Laura Burwell; Yuki and Hunter Klotz-Burwell; and Adam, Conrad and Maddy Inch, as well as her niece Nancy Bromberg (Doug Turnbull) and great nieces Keren and Sharon. Ouida was a dedicated registered nurse who spent the early part of her adult life nursing and raising a family in Alberta. Following the death of her first husband, Mike Shulhan, she worked in Cornwall and Ottawa hospitals and with the Ottawa School Board for many years. Ouida was always an animal lover, and was well known for her skill in a variety of crafts such as sewing, knitting and quilting, as well as her love of cooking, baking and hosting family dinners. Throughout her life, she enjoyed many hobbies and activities including cross country skiing, ‘birding’, Tai Chi and bridge. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Thanks to all the wonderful staff at Leisure World where Ouida lived the last three years of her life.
