Surrounded by and in the hearts of her family and friends, Trish passed away very peacefully in the early morning of Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the age of 47 at her home. Trish is precious to many who will dearly miss her and whose lives were enriched by knowing her. Dear spouse of Rob; mother of Ryan (grade 9 at Bill Crothers SS) and Erin (grade 5 at Woodland PS); daughter of Bruce and Marlene Giles (Port Elgin, ON); sister of Susan and Barry Dunlop (Port Elgin), sister-in-law of David O'Connor and Reneé Lagacé, Tim and Elizabeth O'Connor, Pete and Deb O'Connor (Regina, SK), Rose and Dave Williams (Newmarket); granddaughter of Mildred Giles; niece of Gary and Rosemary Giles and Alieda and Lyle Murray (Clifford, ON); loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Trish has many close friends who are wonderfully supportive of her and her family including Sue and Dave, Holly and Warren, Laurie and Jim, Joanne and Dennis, Nancy and Andre, Susan and Dieter, and Kelly and Rick
Trish had a keen and organized mind and a strong desire to succeed and contribute. She obtained her Bachelor of Mathematics degree at the University of Waterloo and her Chartered Accountants designation, both in 1988. Trish worked at KPMG and then as Director of Finance at Enbridge/Consumers Gas until 2001. In the midst of her successful first career, after the birth of Erin, Trish "retired" and embarked on her second career raising her children and as a volunteer in her community. Trish was passionate about the charities, schools, clubs, children's teams and her community and spent countless hours dedicated to these causes.
Trish battled ovarian cancer for almost six years with strength and dignity. Throughout, she remained unfailingly positive and always focused more on the needs of others than on herself. Trish received outstanding care from the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre team including Dr. Allan Covens and the chemotherapy nursing team.
Trish was wonderful at creating memories and these will be treasured. Some of these memories are related to Ryan and Erin's accomplishments in academics and sports and regular family vacations to Port Elgin, Banff, Cleveland's House and Blue Mountain. During breaks in her treatments, Trish found the time and the energy to plan and organize many more substantial family vacations including Disneyworld, Jamaica, Europe and most recently, Hawaii in 2011.
Friends may call on Monday, May 14, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. & Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Thornhill United Church (25 Elgin Street). Interment to follow at York Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Trish has requested donations to Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre or to Ovarian Cancer Canada.
