On February 10th, 2026, Richard Tavares passed peacefully at Toronto Western Hospital with his wife, Filomena, by his side. Richards' love and legacy live on as he is survived by his two children, Claudia and Rico. Richard has gone to rest with his mother Betty and his PoPo.
Richard will be forever remembered as a devoted father, loving husband, generous friend and a man whose tireless work ethic inspired all those around him. Richard connected many in ways that often felt unimaginable, maintaining an insurmountable network of friends and family he cared for deeply. He had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued; his presence filled every room with comfort and laughter. Richard touched the lives of all those who were lucky enough to know him, demonstrating his warmth, humour and steady kindness. Fragments of his spirit are immortalized in all those who remember him.
Even in his youth, Richard moved as a hardworker with an unyielding focus on family. When his mother passed, he took it upon himself to bear responsibilities far beyond his years, eventually going on to make a name for himself in banking. In his career, Richard again left an indelible mark, building lifelong friendships through compassion and hospitality.
Richard met his wife, Filomena, in 2005, and they were married soon after. They built a life together, supported by his unyielding adherence to loyalty and to fatherhood. Richard was a cherished husband and father who always made time for his family, whether that meant staying up late to watch UFC with his son or driving his daughter to soccer games she barely played in. Richard raised his two children with boundless love and quiet strength, teaching them the value of perseverance and integrity.
Richard will forever reside in our hearts.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at Toronto Western for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation in Richard's memory… (heart and stroke)
