Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen, and their children Ann, David (Debbie) and Bruce (Nancy) as well as their grandchildren Erin, Kelly (Jeff), Cameron, Trevor, Rachel, Robert, Derek and three great-grandchildren.
Bob was born on June 16, 1935 in Toronto, Ontario to Doreen Stephens (predeceased). As a youth, he sang in the United Church choir and served at the altar. He graduated from North Toronto Collegiate in 1953 and began working for Doherty Roadhouse, retiring in 2000 from Merrill Lynch after several mergers.
Bob met Helen at work and they married in 1956 (the stories he had of those early days!). Their family was raised in Toronto while spending weekends & holidays in Utterson where he enjoyed the great outdoors and life in Muskoka with Helen’s family. Hunting was a life-long passion and he carried fond memories of time in the field with his cousin, Bill, and his hunt camp buddies in Bent River.
Robert loved his family & friends deeply, laughed infectiously, enjoyed a good game of cards (as well as his TV), and sang richly whenever spirit moved him. He enjoyed all Toronto sports teams (Go Leafs!) and was introduced to NASCAR in the past few years by Bruce. Bob loved a good joke and made everyone who came in contact with him feel at ease. We will miss his wisdom, sense of fun, and guiding hand in our daily lives.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street, North York. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 1pm.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
