

Died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Residence, 2 O’Connor Drive on October 13, 2015
in the 73rd year of her religious life. Sister Jean was the daughter of Harry De Luca and Mary Cushnic. She is predeceased by her sisters Stella and Sister Rita De Luca, CSJ, and her brothers Harry, Albert, Anthony and Victor. She will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, friends, and her Sisters in community.
Following graduation from St. Joseph’s College School, Sister Jean chose teaching as her profession. In 1942, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto, and taught in many parochial grade schools and Catholic High Schools throughout the Archdiocese of Toronto.
After further study, Sister Jean obtained a M. A. in Education from the University of Toronto, and a PhD in Education and Psychology from Ottawa University. She was a consultant in Guidance for the Metropolitan Separate School Board and the Welland District School Board.
In 1973, Sister Jean became engaged in Retreat Ministry at Queen of Apostles Retreat House. In 1976, she established The Christian Life Centre at St. Joseph’s Morrow Park. A New Beginnings Program for newly widowed or divorced Catholics was initiated. For 30 years, Sister Jean reached out in compassion and love to many individuals to help them to cope with grief and loss. The Christian Life Centre was a place of prayer, comfort and support for many seeking a new beginning in their Christian life.
In recent years, Sister Jean was engaged in prayer ministry at St. Joseph’s Residence, 2 O’ Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario.
Visitation will take place at St. Joseph’s Residence 2 O’ Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario Friday, October 16, 2015, from 3:30 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Residence, O’Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario, Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
