Born on June 10, 1922 to Luigi and Rosa, Virginia was one of 12 children raised in a historic house on Carrville Road (now Rutherford Rd) in Richmond Hill, ON. Virginia is survived by her older sister, Marie Rosa, currently Canada’s oldest living person (110 years old), and is predeceased by her other siblings Phillip, Elizabeth, Laura, Anne, Josephine, Louise, Donald, Vince, Christina, and Luigi (Lou). The Del Brocco family holds the proud distinction of being the first Italian family to settle in the Woodbridge area.
Virginia had a successful and distinguished career rising to become the Executive Assistant to the CEO of Simpson-Sears Canada. Always fashionably dressed, she was often compared to Queen Elizabeth II for her classy style and similar looks. While Virginia loved to host and cook for family, she also enjoyed traveling the world including to countries like Italy, Spain, France and Morocco.
In her retirement, Virginia embraced her role as the Matriarch of the Del Brocco family and devotedly cared for her parents who remarkably were married 76 years. After moving into a condo at Bathurst and Lawrence, she lived with her great-nephews, Michael and then Blake (Louis IV), before her final move in 2021 to the Village of Humber Heights retirement home alongside her sister, Marie.
With more than a century having passed since her birth, Virginia leaves behind a beautiful legacy spanning four generations of nieces and nephews who will never forget Auntie Virgie’s kindness, grace, generosity and most importantly, her love of family.
The family will receive friends at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home at 8088 Yonge St, Thornhill on Fri May 15th (4 to 8 pm) and Sat May 16th (10:30 am to noon) followed by a Catholic Mass at 1 pm at St. Margaret of Scotland Church at 222 Ridley Blvd, North York - celebration to follow.
