Anthony Kenneth Abeyta also known as “Tony” to some of you, passed away early Wednesday morning on February 12, 2025. He was born in Trinidad, Colorado on November 12, 1949. He is preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Rose Abeyta and his three brothers, Timothy, Eugene and Gilbert. Tony was the eldest of the four siblings.
Tony grew up in Denver and attended East High School. He continued his education at Trinidad Junior College. He was always eager to learn and study.
When he returned from the Army he met and married the love of his life, Dorraine. They were married in June of 1974 and last year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Wherever you saw Tony, you would see his wife because they were inseparable.
He had three beautiful daughters and was very proud of their accomplishments. Tony worked very hard to provide for his family in the construction field and later joined Local #28. He worked at Rocky Flats as well as different work sites: Coal and Gas Fired Plants, Hospitals, Schools, Refineries, Nuclear Power Plants, Pharmaceutical Plants and Brewing facilities. He was actively involved in the structure of the Armed Forces Tribute Garden in Westminster. Tony also was instrumental in helping and creating the First American Legion Car Show for Post #22.
He was actively involved in The American Legion, Elks, FOMOCO Car Club, Collector Car Council of Colorado, Cold War Veterans, Vets Helping Vets, Green Jobs, and Building & Trades. After retiring he worked as Director, instructor and recruiter for the JATC program in Local #28. Tony was an active profound individual who helped others without hesitation.
His hobbies consisted of working on his collector vehicles and restoring them. Tony spent hours working on his vehicles and “tinkering”. Tony’s pass time was entering Car Shows where he was often awarded numerous trophies. When he wasn’t at a Car Show, he would be camping and spending time with his grandchildren. He would also attend their games, school events and activities. Where he would always cheer them on. His biggest joy was fishing with his friends, son-in-laws and grandchildren and he passed on his love of fishing to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorraine: daughters Bridget (Vince) Lesperance; Jennifer (Joseph) Giannetto; Stephanie (Jeff) Lane; his 9 grandchildren; Jasmin Lesperance, Stevie Lane, Ember Lane, Alivia Lesperance, Landon Lane, Giovanni Giannetto, Anthony Lesperance, Gavin Giannetto, AvaMarie Lesperance; and two great grandchildren; Micah and Annastasia.
