Antonio was born in Thornton, Colorado to Brandon Trujillo, and Julieann Lewis on August 12, 2003. Since birth, Antonio was very determined to reach any goal or plan he set for himself. His strong will, focus and determination prevailed, until accomplished. He resided in Northglenn, CO, living in the townhome by Webster Lake growing up, where his fondest memories formed. We moved into our house when he was 8 years old. He went through his teens, and matured into early adulthood, sadly he died on November 23, 2021. Antonio’s greatest feat he had to overcome, while cementing his legacy for those who loved him, began on May 26, 2021. Antonio was struck by a vehicle, at full speed on the highway. He would spend nearly 5 months in the hospital, beginning with 3 months in the ICU. He sustained major bodily trauma, a traumatic brain injury, along with both of his femurs broken, his left knee obliterated, a broken R tibia, an open 8-inch gash on his L calf, along with a broken L fibula. He would face
more complications afterwards, leading to pneumonia, turning into acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). After all that, in unfathomable pain, and near death, Antonio continued to fight on. On June 6, Antonio received an emergency baptism, when it was not known whether he would survive. On a respirator, suffering, his body swollen, and blistered, he still refused to give up. His entire body trying to heal, his lungs had to be the priority. On June 22nd Antonio’s left leg was amputated through the knee. Soon thereafter, he regained consciousness, learning of the loss of his leg, and accepted it. His young body began repairing itself rapidly. He had to relearn to speak and control his motor movements. He soon began rebuilding his muscles and would love to show those who visited how strong he was. He worked hard first having to sit up, then transfer himself, to standing up, using a walker and finally gained
the ability to push himself in his wheelchair. Many doctors and nurses worked tirelessly, around the clock at times, and many prayers were said. Above all, God’s blessings, and Antonio’s shear will, strength, and persistence to never give up, he would make it out of the hospital, and made it home on October 12. Antonio would listen to his favorite music, he wanted to visit everyone he could, and kept up with medical appointments and physical therapy. He enrolled in RCIA classes and attended Mass every Sunday. He spent weeks writing his story, beginning from the night he was hospitalized, throughout the time he remained unconscious. He remembered a review of his life, seeing the choices he had made. He told of seeing and feeling what was to come had his judgment been completed, and how frightening it was. He went on to tell of his experiences after awakening, his hospital stays, and what he went through along the way. Also detailing his relentless determination making it possible for him to return home
shortly thereafter. Sadly, Antonio suffered unbearable, at times excruciating pain. Medication allowed short periods of relief, but he was never pain free. He didn’t complain about what he was experiencing, or question God’s plan. His exhibited his devotion to God as he stood and knelt during mass, even after repeatedly being excused from doing so. After suffering so much, God called Antonio home, leaving his legacy of redemption as an example for us all. He is with Jesus in everlasting life, suffering no more, he is at peace.
Antonio is survived by his, Father, Brandon Trujillo; Mother, Julieann Lewis; Sister, Ashley Lewis; Brother,
