Arlene L. Spencer passed away peacefully in Brighton, CO on December 20th, 2024 at the age of 92. Born in Ariba, CO on February 26, 1932 to Lonnie and Ethel Phillips, she was the oldest of 4 girls. Growing up on the farm until 4th grade, the family moved to town where Arlene graduated from Ariba High School in 1950. At 16, she met Hershel Spencer, the love of her life, when his family moved from Oklahoma to Ariba to farm. Hershel had joined his family in Ariba after serving in the Army. They were married on August 5, 1950, in Kingman, AZ, and settled in Arvada, CO to start a family. She had several jobs, but worked for Lange Ski Boot Co in Denver, a nationally known manufacturing company, for over 10 years. She completed her working career at the Adams County Election Dept in Brighton, CO, working there for 15 years. Arlene and Hershel had one son, Gary, the light of their lives. Supporting Gary’s childhood endeavors kept them firmly planted in the agricultural world for the entirety of their lives. Arlene was quick to lend support whether it was raising baby pigs, calves, or attending Hershel’s and Gary’s roping events. After retirement, Hershel and Arlene followed Gary back to the country on a farm south of Hudson, CO where they spent the rest of their lives. Living close to Gary, his wife Cheryl and granddaughter Amy was as good as it gets. The 3 great grandsons (Wesley, Edward and Spencer) that came later were an added bonus. Arlene and Hershel were avid campers. They enjoyed camping and fishing in the mountains as well as Bonny Reservoir in eastern Colorado. Their travels took them to Alaska, Canada (several times) and many trips to Branson, MO. Arlene will be remembered as a kind, caring, and fair-minded woman. An intelligent lady with a great sense of humor. She loved all animals, and her cat Tootsie brought her great comfort after Hershel’s passing in 2019. She was a loyal friend to family members and friends. Arlene is survived by her son Gary (Cheryl) Spencer, granddaughter & husband Amy (Tommy) Siegman, great grandsons Wesley, Edward and Spencer Siegman, sisters Wilma (Don) Mosher and Dorothy (Shorty) Craven, in laws Virgil & Jenell Spencer, Harlan Spencer and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Hershel Spencer, parents Lonnie and Ethel Phillips, sister Shirley and husband Pat Cunningham, brothers in law Don Mosher and Shorty Craven, sister in law Lou Ann Spencer, nephews Matt Mosher, Leroy Mosher and Cody Craven. Services will be held at Olinger Highland Mortuary Chapel in Thornton, CO on Friday, January 10 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the Breast Cancer Foundation.
