

Carl Warren Hays (87) of Westminster, Colorado died December 5, 2011 in the Life Care Center in Westminster, Colorado. Carl was born February 7, 1924 in Glade, Kansas to Leslie and Ethel Hays, but grew up in Greeley, CO. During WW II, he served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army, 1st Cavalry 161st Division Field Artillery. After his discharge he attended CSCE and CSC (now UNC). He played varsity football for the “Bears” from 1946-1949. He received both his AB, & MA degrees at the college. He coached and taught at Keenesburg High School from 1950-1952. He was a coach and teacher at Kearney Junior High & Adams City High School for 33 years before his retirement in 1985. He married Betty Lou Farley November 29, 1946 in Durango, CO. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary just a few days before his death. Survivors include his wife Betty, daughter Barbara (Dave) Struck of Westminster; Colorado, son Gregory Hays (Sherry) of Loveland, Colorado; a sister Opal Cumley of Duluth, MN; two grandsons, Jack Herrera (Katie) of Westminster, Colorado and Tim Herrera (Dana) of Elizabeth, CO; two great-grandchildren, Jessica Herrera and Jack Herrera IV. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Marion, Zane, Elmo & his sister Ella. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Olinger Highland Mortuary Chapel, 10201 Grant Street, Thornton, CO.
