Christie Leigh Medford (Cherry) graced this earth with her presence on May 2, 1986 in Dallas, Texas to Chris and Linda (Duke) Cherry, with her beauty and smile. Her older brother, Kyle, welcomed Christie to our family with a teddy bear for her basinet so he would know which baby in the nursery was his little sister. Christie was born with a thick head of hair which stood straight up. Being the youngest and only girl, Christie quickly wrapped her dad around her little finger which was actually a very easy thing to do.
During her adolescence, Christie wanted to learn about everything, including working on a car with her dad along with many different activities; she played the piano and flute, was part of the marching band, sang in multiple choirs, danced ballet, played soccer and softball but ended up loving basketball the most, which she lettered at Green Mountain High School. Christie also loved adventure and was extremely loyal to her family and friends. One of her adventures was providing the vocal entertainment on a cruise ship with some other choir members. To remember this adventure, Christie came home with a henna tattoo which we were thankful wasn’t permanent.
Christie loved animals and always wanted to be in the Veterinary field. When she was 13, she attended Take Your Daughter to work day and stated I had a very boring job. The following year, Christie asked if she could shadow our Vet, Dr. John Slywester, who agreed to the day. When I picked her up from his practice, he wanted to hire her immediately. After family discussion, she started working at the practice, which turned into a lifelong career. Christie received an academic scholarship along with a vocal scholarship to the University of Wyoming which she enthusiastically embraced. While at UW, she was also involved in the Veterinary Medicine department participating in a grant study on bird migration patterns.
Christie met the love of her life, Tim Medford, at a graduation party. It was love at first site for Christie. She talked about Tim constantly. When Tim wanted to ask her to marry him, he kept trying to call Chris to ask for her hand, unfortunately, due to caller ID, we kept telling her Tim was calling and to pick up the phone. Eventually, Tim was able to get through to Chris, who of course said YES. Tim and Christie were married on September 27, 2008 in a beautiful ceremony in Genesee, Colorado. Tim and Christie loved being in the outdoors, fishing, kayaking, hiking or shooting, they were made for each other.
Tim and Christie built their loving home in Colorado, close to both the Medford and Cherry families. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Breana Faith Medford and Addison Grace Medford. They also had Sky, Moose, Trigger and Charlie, their dogs to keep them busy. Although, Moose, a yellow lab was hyper and destroyed numerous items, including a wedding album, drapes, anything near his cage was fair game to be destroyed. We were all thankful Moose was so cute that Christie couldn’t stay angry at him for very long.
Christie cherished her family and together with Tim taught their children to do the same. She loved her grandparents, Neil and Sharon Cherry, AKA pickle man and pickle lady along with all her aunts, uncles, and cousins. Christie had a love of life, a heartfelt laugh, was extremely creative, loved to scrapbook, loved collecting roosters and chickens and was fiercely devoted to Tim, Breana, Addie, her family and friends.
She put up a valiant fight against EHE cancer, going through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and was always optimistic things would improve and she would beat cancer again. After a courageous battle, Christie passed away on June 30, 2021. She is survived by her loving husband, Tim Medford, her beautiful daughters, Breana and Addison, her brother Kyle Cherry and family, her grandparents, Neil and Sharon Cherry, Justin and Cindy Medford, Sarah Wolfe (Medford) and family, John Medford and family along with cherished aunts, uncles and cousins. Christie’s motto was “Life comes at you fast, filled with bumps in the road, but just remember to breathe and have fun”.
The celebration of Christie’s life will be held on July 12, 2021 at The Crossing Church of the Nazarene, 3501 W. 104th Avenue, Westminster, CO. A go-fund me account has been established to assist the family with the medical expenses.
