Dat came to the United States at the end of the Vietnam War and moved to Colorado Springs, Arvada, Westminster, Louisiana, and then back to Arvada. He graduated from Pomona High School in 1988 and then from Regis University in 1992 with a whopping four credentials—a B.S. in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Psychology, as well as a Certificate in Secondary Education—before becoming a highly accomplished chemist and environmental analyst.
During his time in college, he met the love of his life, Naomi, who he married in 1995, and had two children with, Rebeka and Alex. His family remained the most precious and treasured part of his life, though he extended immense love and compassion to his found and extended family, his friends, his and his wife’s coworkers, his Buddhist temple community, Pokémon Go, and everyone whose life he touched, even if only for a little while.
Dat is survived by his wife and soulmate Naomi, his beloved children Rebeka and Alex, his mother Son, and his younger siblings Phuong-Linh Nguyen, Thanh Vo, Xuan-Thu Vo, and Hoai-Huong Li, as well as his many beloved nieces, nephews, in laws, cousins, his extensive extended family, and grand-pup Kiwi.
The viewing will take place on Saturday, February 15th, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Olinger Highland Mortuary, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229, and his funeral service will take place at the Fort Lupton Buddhist Temple, 720 Main St, Fort Lupton, CO 80621, on February 18th at 11:00am, with a reception to follow at the Platteville Community Center, 508 Reynolds Ave, Platteville, CO 80651.
