

On the morning of March 14, 2016 Guy passed away peacefully in his sleep at 5:20 am. He was a resident of Broomfield Skilled Nursing at the time of his death. Guy Smith was born in Fort Morgan, CO on April 8, 1941 along with his twin sister, Donna. He was 1 of five children and the youngest son of Lora Belle and Willie Dean Smith.
The Smith family first came to Denver, CO from Fort Morgan, CO when Guy was 2 years old at an young age Donald took on cooking which he loved and carried with him into his adulthood. He attended Thatcher Elementary School, Grant Middle School and South High School. For a short time he lived in Farmington, New Mexico where he played football and worked in a restaurant that his father owned.
He then married Judy Bigelow on May 27, 1960, and shortly thereafter had 3 children. When his kids were young Guy liked to spend long days riding motorcycles, racing motorcycles, at Lake Macconaughy water skiing, and gardening. His gardening proceeded into the nursing home where he volunteered and did the homes gardening with the help of others.
Some of Guy’s greatest life treasures were his grand kids and great-grand kids.Guy was the best at doing the famous Donald Duck voice for the kids. He was so proud of the accomplishments that all the grandchildren made in both academics and in sports.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents Lora Belle and Willie Dean Smith, also by his eldest brother Bo Smith.
Guy is survived by his siblings Martha Kaiser (Ernie; dec.), Harold Smith (Sandra), Betty Samuel (Bill), and Donna Johnson; children Carrie DeHerrera (Paul), Dean Smith and Lori Raya (Sam); grandchildren DJ DeHerrera (Ann), Rachel Teicheira, Jessica DeHerrera, Preston DeHerrera and Spencer Smith; and great-grandchildren Taylor DeHerrera, Madison DeHerrera-Minjarez and McKinley DeHerrera.
Memorial services for Guy will be held on April 5, 2016 at the Olinger Highland Mortuary (10201 Grant St. Thornton, CO 80229) at 10:00am. Following the services there will be a celebration of life gathering at the Hillcrest Condominiums (9968 Appletree Pl. Thornton, CO 80260).
