Dora Castillo (née Gomez) was called home to her Lord and Savior on May 17, 2023. She was 90 years old. Dora was born on June 26, 1932, in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Mollie (née Delgado) Gomez/Rivera and Leopoldo Perez Gomez. She was the beloved wife of the late Raul Castillo whom she married in April 1948.
Dora was raised in Cheyenne where she attended school, church, and work. She met Raul while working at a small café where he was stationed at Warren Air Force Base. They fell in love and married in 1948. They moved to Colorado in 1962 where Dora worked at Rose Medical Center as a nurse’s aide and unit secretary for 23 years.
Dora had a strong faith and was an active member of Templo Gethsemani in Denver, and then Westminster Assembly of God, later known as Thrive Church. She sang in the choir, performed in plays, sang solos, and taught Sunday school for 3–4-year-olds. She also led a small prayer group.
Dora was a loving mother to her six children: Margaret Louise, Sarah (Isaias Avila), Raul David (Christina), Richard John (Michelle), Alice Rebecca (Louis Ortiz), and Rachel Diane (Pete Fritchel). Her love continued to overflow to her 15 grandchildren, fifty-some great-grandchildren, and twenty-some great, great-grandchildren. Unfortunately, Dora had to say goodbye to her oldest daughter Margaret, who passed away in August 2019.
In recent years, Dora also faced the passing of her husband, Raul Castillo, who passed away in May 2018, after being married for an incredible 70 years. Along with her husband, Dora was predeceased by her brothers Leo Gomez Jr., Jesse Gomez, Leslie Gomez, and Tommy Rivera. Despite these losses, she is survived by her siblings, Elvera Gomez (Bee) and Danny Gomez, who will continue to cherish her memory.
Dora will be remembered for her kind heart, her strong faith, and her dedication to her family. Although she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, she is exactly where she is meant to be: in Heaven, with Jesus, and surrounded by loved ones.
