

She was born in Aguilar, Colorado, grew up in Brighton, and settled in Denver.
Helen worked in retail for a number of years before going to floral design school where she discovered a love for flowers. That love led her to open her own business, Flowers by Helen.
She participated in various floral competitions and even won First Place at the Adams County Fair.
She helped raise money for the Veteran’s Memorial located at Thornton City Hall to honor her grandson, Fred Tapia Jr., who was serving in Desert Storm.
Helen loved gardening, sewing and cooking. She always made matching outfits for her first four grand-daughters, and nobody even comes close to her chicken enchiladas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Santiago “James” and Virginia Nuanes; son, Phillip Charles Salazar; two sisters and three brothers
Helen is survived by her daughters, Beverly, Barbara (Fred), and Tina; nine grandchildren, Jill, Bernadette (Brian), Rene (Dirk), Kim, Fred Jr., Louis, Christine, Erica, and James; twelve great-grandchildren, Lyndsey, Phillip, Darren, Fredrick, Alexandra, Julian, Savannah, Sierra, Sawyer, Sophia, Gabriella, and Robert; a great-great-granddaughter, Amelia; three sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Visitation beginning at 9:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 am, will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Olinger Highland Mortuary.
