Jose Lino Medina, 75, born in Balleza, Chihuahua, and most recently a resident of Golden and Lakewood, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Father’s Day, June 15, 2025. His passing came just five weeks after the loss of his beloved wife of 52 years, Valerie Ann Medina, who died on Mother’s Day. Their passing on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day feels like a poetic tribute to the love and devotion they shared in life and with their girls. They had recently celebrated their last anniversary together on April 28th. Their lifelong love story continues, now reunited eternally.
Jose was one of twelve children born to Maria Varela and Lino Medina. He came to the United States as a young man, becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1977 with the support of his family. Known for his work ethic, loyalty, and quiet strength, Jose was a man of deep faith and humility. He dedicated over 40 years to his work as a horticulturist with the Coors Brewing Company in Golden and later with Jeff and Lis Coors, using his talent and passion for flowers and landscape to bring beauty, color, and joy to every space he touched.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Dr. Christina Medina and Jenny Medina, and his cherished granddaughter, Alexa Rodriguez, who brought him endless pride and happiness. He also leaves behind his dear sister Martha Sanchez and his brothers Jose de la Luz, Raul, Tomas, Alfredo, and Salvador Medina, along with many nieces and nephews.
Jose also found joy in life’s simpler pleasures. His love of poker led him to be a frequent visitor to the Black Hawk casinos, where his luck was as legendary as his stories. He had a knack for picking the right machine and always seemed to walk away a winner, grinning, grateful, and ready to go again. Over the years, Jose formed many lasting friendships and treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved. Like his wife Valerie, he had a deep love for music and never missed a chance to share his voice through Mariachi, bringing joy to those around him.
He will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, quiet strength, deep faith in God, and the immense love he had for his family. His legacy blooms through the beauty he cultivated, the moments he shared, and the loved ones who will carry him with them always.
We love you more, Dad. Always and forever.
