Juanita “Jane” Brito (Martinez) passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family. She is preceded in death by her parents Diego Martinez and Amelia Martinez, husband Ernest Brito, and brother Eutimio Martinez.
She is survived by her daughter Angela Mejia (Ramon), son Michael Brito (Sirena) and grandchildren Justina Brito-Jojola (Anthony), Michael Zachary Brito, Jonas Nathan Brito, April Barra, Felicia Barra, and Desirae Barra. Siblings Irene Archuleta (Adonario), Dorothy Garcia, Ruben Martinez (Geri), Judy Romero (Richard), a large extended family and many friends.
Juanita was born in Costilla, NM and raised in Cerro, NM. She lived most of her life in Denver, CO.
She retired from the Denver Housing Authority then went to work part-time at the Colorado Convention Center. She was active with the St Kateri Native American Catholic Community in Lakewood, CO. She was also a part of the Holy Cross Parish in Thornton, CO. Juanita was especially proud to have volunteered for spiritual care at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton, CO for 10 years.
Her service will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at St. Bernadette Catholic Parish at 7240 West 12th Ave in Lakewood, CO. The Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am. A reception will follow in the Parish hall. Burial will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Juanita asked that donations be made to the St. Kateri Native American community or Holy Cross Catholic Parish.
