It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leo Steven Hurtado Sr., a devoted family man, cherished friend, and pillar of his community. On July 5, 2025, at the age of 61, Leo concluded a life rich in love and laughter, passing away peacefully in Aurora, Colorado, surrounded by his beloved family.
Born in Denver, Colorado, on March 9, 1964, to Elias (Leo) and Janice Hurtado. Leo had 3 sisters and later, 4 stepsiblings. In 1984, his life found its beautiful centerpiece when he met Shellie in Northglenn. They married in 1989, and they raised three sons: Dustin Gamble (Lisa), Leo Jr. (Pearl), and Cody (Kiley). Leo was a Christian man and embraced his role as a husband and father with immense pride and unwavering dedication, finding his greatest joy in the family they built together.
A skilled electrician, Leo first learned his trade working for his uncle (Gilbert) before channeling his dedication and expertise into establishing his own successful business. He successfully passed on this knowledge and skill to Dustin. Leo was respected for his craftsmanship and the integrity with which he served his community.
Leo’s zest for life was infectious. He and Shellie shared a love for travel, creating a lifetime of memories as they explored new horizons together. He could often be found on the golf course with family and friends, sharing stories and laughter.
Leo’s warm presence will be profoundly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Shellie; his sons and their spouses; his mother, Janice (Hurtado) Junge; and his siblings. He is now reunited in spirit with his father, Elias (Leo) Hurtado, stepdad, Marlin W. Junge, and sister, Dianne Turner.
A private funeral service will be held to honor Leo’s memory.
Leo Steven Hurtado Sr. lived a life defined by love, and his legacy will shine in the memories shared and the love that remains in our hearts.
