Margaret Mary Guenther

June 6, 1926 - November 15, 2022

Margo was born on June 6, 1926 in Hayden, Colorado to Peter and Margaret Haley. She was the second oldest of four children; John (Jack) Haley, Elaine (Haley) McGann, and Martin (Marty) Haley. She spent her childhood on her family’s ranch in Rio Blanco County, Colorado. She went to school in a small one room schoolhouse and enjoyed riding her horse to school with her brother, Jack. After Margo’s graduation from Craig High School the family moved to Denver, Colorado.

Margo attended Loretto Heights College and Denver University where she studied teaching and later she graduated with a degree in Airline Travel. She was a proud member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. Upon graduation she proudly became a stewardess for United Airlines. She loved flying around the United States and made many friends, she later became a member of the former stewardess group called Clipped Wings.

She married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Guenther on May 5th, 1951. Margo hung up her stewardess uniform and focused on her new role of wife as they settled in Denver, Colorado. A few years later she became a mother and they were blessed with James (Jim), Virginia Marie (Gini), John, and Margaret (Meg). The family moved to Lakewood, Co. and Margo remained there for 54 years.

Margo was a dedicated mother and housewife while raising her children. She returned to the workforce, after Bob’s passing in 1987, as a bank teller. She worked various other jobs until she became the personal assistant to W. Scott Moore until her retirement. Scott called her not too long after she retired and asked her to come back to work for him. She took great pride in her work and was well loved by the Moore family.

Margo was a lifelong Christian and devoted much of her time to her church and Community Bible Study group. She was involved in various groups at Applewood and loved her Titus 2 Women’s group and enjoyed all the activities they had, including a slumber party at Margo’s Senior Living apartment.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Jack Haley.

Survived by her siblings, Elanie McGann and Marty Haley, and her children, Jim (Renita) Guenther, Gini (Mike) Retka, John (Juli) Guenther, Meg (James) Johnson, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service for Margo will be on Saturday, December 17th, 2022 at 1:30 pm at Applewood Community Church, 12930 W. 32nd Ave. Golden, CO 80401, with a reception to follow.
