Martin Anthony Mitchell was the beloved husband of Elaine Madeline Mitchell of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and they were married for 55 years. He was also a devoted father to James, Mark, and Heather Mitchell, and a proud grandfather to Hannah, Emma, Gabriella, Maya, and Dominic Mitchell. He is also survived by siblings and extended family members residing in Tennessee and Pennsylvania.
Martin and Elaine were married on June 20, 1970, and spent over 30 years living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Martin worked as an accountant for U.S. Steel. In later years, Martin and Elaine followed their children and grandchildren to Windermere, Florida; Scottsdale, Arizona; and finally Westminster, Colorado, where they resided for the past decade. Martin loved the dry heat, desert landscape, and mountain scenery of Arizona, and his final resting place will be in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Martin deeply loved his family and appreciated the small, simple joys in life. He was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and enjoyed watching sports, movies, and game shows. One of Martin’s lifelong dreams was to visit Paris, France. After his first battle with colon cancer in 1992, he fulfilled that dream several years later, walking through museums and street markets and collecting paintings and prints that became some of his most treasured possessions.
Over the past 30 years, Martin courageously faced multiple battles with cancer. He was both a fighter and a survivor. In November 2024, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer and underwent surgery to remove a kidney. Though he initially improved, the cancer later spread to his spine. Martin peacefully went home to be with God on January 16, 2026, where he is now free from pain, illness, and earthly struggles.
The family asks that memorial gifts in Martin’s name be made to the American Cancer Foundation, the Broomfield FISH Food Pantry, or North Scottsdale United Methodist Church.
