

Mary Theresa Lopez, 87, of Westminster, Colorado, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 10, 2025. She entered this world on April 9, 1937 in Wattenberg, Colorado and was the beloved daughter of Jose and Altagracia Duran. Mary spent her early childhood in the Eastlake area and was raised in the Globeville neighborhood of Denver. She grew up in a large family with a lot of love.
Mary’s life was marked by love, dedication, and a generous spirit. She met her husband Joseph “Rudy” Lopez at a St. Patrick’s dance, fell in love, and they were married on September 16, 1956. They shared 57 years of marriage, love, and companionship together.
Mary was a devout Catholic and was unwavering in her example of how to live in Christ. She was a kind, gentle, and compassionate person who was beloved for her faithfulness in teaching preschool, religious education to special needs students, and in her involvement with the religious groups; Faith and Light, Bible Study Fellowship, and Holy Rosary Group. Mary lived to share her strong faith with her family and showed them how to always put God first.
She was a devoted mother and dedicated her life to her family. She shared a special bond with her son Rudy and was steadfast in her commitment as his primary caretaker. Her love and affection for others was deeply felt and admired by all of her family and friends.
Mary was a proud mother to seven children and had thirteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children Patrick M Lopez (Lucy Cardenas), Bernadette (Brian) Swearengen, Rudy Lopez, Victoria (Anthony) Quintana, Melinda (Joseph) Centeno, and Melissa Lopez (John Heredia). She is survived by her siblings Eleanor (Joe) Carrillo, David Duran, and Patsy Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lopez, daughter, Cynthia Torrez, son,Tommy Lopez, parents, Altagracia and Jose Duran, and her siblings Benito Duran, Miki Hernandez, Joe Duran, Ruben Duran and Josie Serna.
A Rosary for Mary will be said on Monday, February 17, 2025 starting at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3050 W 76th Ave., Westminster, CO 80030. A Catholic Mass dedicated to her honor will follow the rosary at 11:00 AM. Catholic burial will take place after Mass at Olinger Highland Cemetery, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229. Reception will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church after the burial.
