Maxine L. Kunz

Died on January 26, 2024 at the age of 89. Maxine was born on September 19, 1934 in Kimball, NE to Otto and Louessa Schmoldt. She lived on a farm north of Dix, NE until her marriage to the love of her life Pete Kunz; on August 24, 1952. They lived in Kimball and Dix until they moved to Denver, Colorado May 1964.

Maxine worked some odd and in jobs until she worked for Jody’s Flower Basket for 10 years. Then RCA and GE for 14 years, 3 years at University of Colorado. Maxine finished out her working journey for Dealers Auto Auction, where she stayed for 19 years and retired at the age of 80.

She and Pete were very active in their church. They loved to travel, road trips of course because Maxine would not fly. They had been in all but 7 States when Pete passed away in 2002. Maxine started traveling with dear friends from Iowa, and started flying. She enjoyed 8 cruises, 6 to Alaska, 1 to Canada, 1 to Panama Canal along with several bus trips and many more road trips. By the age of 82 she had been to all 49 States. Yes, Maxine said 49 States because Hawaii didn’t count, you couldn’t drive there.

She loved to play card games and usually won. She enjoyed playing Bingo, trips to Black Hawk and loved getting together with her Bible study group.

Maxine is known for her boundless generosity and her unwavering compassion for others in need.

She is survived by Step Son Allen (Sher) Kunz of Portland, OR, Son David (Charise) Kunz, Daughter Vicki (Brad) Padgett of Denver, CO. Step Grandchildren Dawn (Tony) Torres Portland, OR. Grandchildren Cory Padgett, Brianna Kunz, Josh Padgett, Heather (Josh) Ross, Jenna (Aaron) Thomas, Joel Padgett of Denver, CO. Great Grandchildren Codie Thomas, Gavin Padgett, Logan Padgett, Nolan Ross of Denver CO. Step Great Grandchildren Makayla Allen, Mark Torres, Arianna Torress of Portland OR. One brother Leonard (Mary) Schmoldt of Kingman, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her husband Pete after 49 years of marriage and brother Morris.

A funeral service for Maxine will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 12099 Lowell Blvd., Broomfield, CO 80020. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229.

Serving as pallbearers are Cory Padgett, Josh Padgett, Joel Padgett, Gavin Padgett, Codie Thomas, Aaron Thomas and Jenna Thomas.
