Phil was the devoted husband of the late Irma Ames, beloved father of Glen Ames, Fran Fisher, Dale Kline and Jo Tucker. Father-in-law of Claudia, Barry, Rich and Jeff. Grandfather of Lauren Ames, Eric Ames, Adam Fisher, Megan Fisher, Mallory Stevens, Jessica Moses and Allison Herbert. Great grandfather to Kinley, Grant, Quinn, Mia, Sophie, Charlotte, Darcie, and Cooper.
Phil was born and raised in Borough Park, Brooklyn, then on marrying Irma moved with their growing family to Springfield, NJ. Later Irma and Phil also lived in Northport, NY; Escondido, CA, downtown San Diego and finally Colorado.
Phil was the consummate businessman. Starting out as an outside salesman, he rose to start his own company, Branchburg Truss. After surviving two heart attacks in his thirties, Phil decided sole ownership was too stressful and sold the business. A highly successful career in millwork sales followed, as well as land development later on in San Diego.
Phil was a sharp dresser and a huge fan of the Big Bands and Frank Sinatra. He was at one time a president of his Temple. He enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and learning new technologies. Most recently he discovered a talent for painting. Of course, he always loved spending time with his ever-growing family.
Last summer Phil and Irma enjoyed their 75th wedding anniversary in a celebration with family and friends from around the country. Phil, along with Irma, always had a knack for making friends easily, and everyone he met during his long life respected him and enjoyed his company. After Irma passed away, Phil maintained new friendships at their home base, socializing during meals and football games on Sunday.
Phil, the great patriarch of our family, will be greatly missed by all of us and by the many other people who loved him, as well.
Donations in Phil’s name can be made to the American Heart Association or United Jewish Appeal.
A celebration of Life will be held at Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, located at 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO, 80229, US. It is scheduled for Friday, January 30, 2026 at 11:00 am.
