Robert Arthur Bakes
17 septiembre , 1930 – 28 noviembre , 2017
Robert A. Bakes, 87, of Henderson, passed away November 28, 2017. He was born in September of 1930 to Arthur and Martha (Nugent) Bakes in Denver. Robert “Bob” married his high school sweetheart, and is survived by his wife, Donna (McKee) Bakes. They had 66 wonderful years together. Bob is predeceased by his sister, Virginia Kennedy who passed at the age of 92 in West Covina, Ca. He is survived by sister, Esther (Bakes) Gauthier, 92, of West Covina, Ca. Children, Peggy (Bakes) Rosenbrock (Stan Rosenbrock) and Owen Bakes (Cheryl (Case) Bakes); 5 Grandsons, Joey Bakes (Sarah), Matt Rosenbrock ( Megan), Jared Bakes (Bonnie), Sam Rosenbrock (Nikki), and Jacob Bakes (Lindsey). 10 Great grandchildren, Lauren, Brady, Briley, Maci, Kent, Jordyn, Lexi, Myla, Gavin, and Kennedy (due in January).
Bob graduated from William Smith High School in Aurora, CO. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and was honorably discharged at which time he went to work for Ringsby Trucklines as a diesel mechanic. He loved the country life and was able to fulfill his dream of owning property when he bought the farm in 1960. His favorite pastime was working the farm and caring for his livestock. He was an active member of the local co-op, the Brighton Elks Lodge, and enjoyed attending livestock auctions. We never realized how fortunate we were to always have fresh meat, eggs, and vegetables.
Bob “Pop” will be first and foremost remembered for his love of family. He enjoyed traveling the world with Donna and his two sisters. His generous spirit and desire to know that his family would always be taken care of was at the core of his being. We are all grateful to him for the life lessons he passed along and the legacy he left behind.
A graveside gathering of immediate family is scheduled for Friday, December 8 at Olinger Highland Cemetery in Northglenn, CO. The family is requesting no flowers. They wish to honor him with a living memorial. A tree will be planted next spring in Owen’s yard and at Peg’s home. It is something to look at each day and draw comfort from as they think of his love of farming and agriculture and how he enjoyed working the soil and being in nature.
In our hearts and on our minds forever. We can’t imagine life without you. Love you...
God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you
and whispered, “Come to me.”
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer,
And saw you fall away.
Although we couldn’t bear to lose you,
We could not ask you to stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands laid to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
That He only takes the best.
Arrangements under the direction of Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, Thornton, CO.

I wanted to send my sincere condolences for your loss. It is at times like this that scriptures such as, 2 Chronicles 1: 3-5 bring me comfort. I hope that this and other verses from the Bible bring you peace and comfort.
