Sandra May Dunlap was born in Omaha September 28, 1938 to Evelyn and Carl Keil. She was raised in Kansas City KS., graduated from Wyandotte High School, and spent two years at Kansas State University. In 1958, she married R. E. Dunlap (ED) and they moved to Colorado. In Denver, Sandy began her working career as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell, but soon was employed by IBM as a dispatcher. She worked in IBM offices in Denver, Colorado Springs, and Boulder where she retired as an executive secretary. She then worked a few years as an executive secretary for Celestial Seasonings. Sandy and Ed were members of the Rocky Mountain Jaguar Club, and the Rocky Mountain Vintage Racers with which they raced a Jaguar XK140 and an Austin Healey Sprite. They loved Colorado and traveled most of it. They had property near Salida, Co. where they had planned to build a retirement home.
As a great example to us as a people person, Sandy made many friends quickly and made everyone she touched feel happy and better about themselves. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son. Despite this and the fact she spent almost 1/3 of her life in a wheelchair with MS, her spirit and “can do” attitude never wavered and she was always able to conquer what was in front of her and she never lost her love of others. She is survived by her grandson, Jason and his wife Christine, and her brother, Richard and his family.
Arrangements under the direction of Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, Thornton, CO.
