

Sandra Mae Onken passed away on February 20, 2024. Born on July 27, 1947, in Colorado, Sandy was the daughter of Richard & Virginia Grenfell. Growing up with her two sisters, Sandy's early years were filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
After graduating from Westminster High School, Sandy worked at a restaurant, where she met the love of her life, Edward Michael Onken. Sandy was his boss at the time when they met in 1973. They were married in 1975 and shared 48 wonderful years of marriage.
Sandy embarked on a fulfilling career in the banking industry. For most of her life, she dedicated her time and expertise to various roles within the banking sector, starting at First National Bank before it underwent several transformations, eventually becoming Wells Fargo Bank.
Sandy's life was marked by love, adventure, and compassion. As the wife of a firefighter, she became an integral part of the Inter-Canyon Fire Department Vees, actively supporting her husband's endeavors and contributing to her community's safety.
Throughout their marriage, Sandy and Mike enjoyed the simple pleasures of life together. They currently have two dogs, Molly and Sammy, whom they adore like their own children. They enjoyed traveling, making annual trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They would often spend time together at their cabin in Grand Lake, where they would host friends and family. Sandy also liked to read and found solace in the pages of books.
Additionally, she held a special affection for Las Vegas, an annual destination she eagerly explored with her sisters and nieces, along with weekend getaways to Blackhawk.
Above all, Sandy's heart was brimming with love for her family. She possessed a nurturing spirit, often expressing her care through daily cards or inspirational messages to her sisters. Her warmth and kindness extended to her sister in laws & numerous nieces & nephews.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Onken, her sisters, Patty Willis (Ralph), Linda Davis (Crawford, numerous sister and brother in laws along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday March 22nd at 1:00pm at Mile Hi Church, 9077 West Alameda Ave. Lakewood 80226. There will be a Reception in the Community Center following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sandy's honor to the Humane Society or the American Heart Association.
