Uncle Steve remembering you today it’s been a year since you have passed. I think about you often. I think about your words of wisdom, and I pray that you are without pain and suffering. I picture you still giving your words of wisdom and thought to us Here on earth and I thank you every day for those words of wisdom.

Fond memories of our dear Friend and Fellow Corvette Club Founder, Steve.  One thing we did when he was in the hospital years ago.  Steve always said at the end of some sentences "and what knot".
My mom made left over pie dough into cinnamon treats we always called "what knots".  So Paul and I took him "what knots" when we visited him in the hospital.  We miss you, Steve. Love, Norma and Paul

I have known Steve Lucero for over 25 years.  We were intrduced at a Corvette Club meeting in San Diego. My wife Norma and I developed a close relationship with Mona and Steve and my wife Norma.

Steve and and I had similar interests and alway discussed Corvettes. He owned three and I had owned approximatly nine Corvettes. We were both involved in showing our cars in local car shows. In addition, we created our oun car show for Corvettes with our friend Craig  Heidman.
Steve was instimental in setting the Show layout. selecting the judges and overseeing the scoreing  process. Everthing had to be perfect for Steve. I really enjoyed working with Steve and checking the scores for acuraccy.  I am missing my friend Steve Lucero.

I knew Steve for many years working tough accounts at Xerox. By tough, I mean clients were sometimes not very nice. Steve was always calm, empathetic towards their concerns, and just let 'the small stuff' roll right off his back. He loved Mona. Once, I met him in the office, working diligently on something on his computer. He was trying to design a Birthday card for Mona, and was wanting it to be perfect for her. I asked him if I could do it for him, "no, no", I have to do it. From Steve, I learned a valuable lesson, anyone in the Corporate World would be blessed to have:  the ability to put life in perspective, your health and family matter. Work?  . . .Eh, it'll be there tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that.

Steve was a good man and helped my family in securing employment for Skip Ortega at Safeway Distribution Center. He always looked out for  Skip which trickled down to me and my kids. I met Steve through Corvettes.  Steve and Mona were in a different Corvette club and I would see them all the time at car shows.  Their cars were more than clean, they were impeccable.  Steve always greeted me with a big smile and great conversation.  It was always a pleasure to be with him and I am honored to have know him and call him a friend.  My sincere condolences go to his wonderful wife Mona and family.

Mona & Family, I apologize for not being able to make it from NM. I have some health issues that won’t allow me to travel. I truly feel very saddened over Steve’s passing. He was far to young to go. Sending hugs and love to the family. I will keep you in my prayers. God bless all of you. 

We knew Steve as a neighbor, fellow cancer fighter and friend.  

His heart and positive attitude, regardless of his circumstance or how he was feeling, will always be an inspiration.  He did not let his battle with cancer get him down, and he lived every day well.  We will remember him fondly every time we see a Corvette and will forever admire his attention to the smallest detail!  

He believed it was very important to pass responsibility on to our next generation and to always give our best effort, regardless of how tired or distracted by the world we were at any given time.  His work reflected his ethic for living life.  He did it his way and to the best of his ability...no matter what.  Anyone that witnessed his hand placing the rock, one by one, in his culvert will attest to his spirit for quality workmanship.  His work ethic also came through in his love for and passion for cars, especially Corvette's, which he passed to our Grandson, Logan.  

With special acts of kindness for a 6 year old boy, Steve made sure Logan always found a card encouraging him, along with a  special die cast Corvette car - always his favorite color red - or car poster for his room, at birthday time.  

A special memory for a little boy, who upon learning Steve had passed said, "I'll bet Steve has a fast car in Heaven!"  

Mona, we were so very sorry to hear Steve had passed, but will remember the the moments we shared with him fondly.  Enjoying a sweet treat of his favorite oatmeal and raisin cookies; laughing about how  concerned he would get if a drop of oil found its way onto the driveway;, and of course talking seriously about the state of our world.  He had as many opinions as interests and was never shy about sharing!   

Mona, please know we are here for you and have you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.  He will be missed, but he left a legacy to be proud of...a legacy that will carry on with and through all who knew him.

Steve Lucero was one of the "good guys". Always positive, a gifted smile,  great organizer,  close friend,  and a Corvette brother.  We will miss him but will always remember all of the good times together.  Our best wishes go out to Mona and family members!

My wife and I are so saddened by Steve’s passing. We pray for God’s strength and comfort for Mona and family going forward. Steve was an extraordinary man, a great friend, and one of the kindest people I’ve known. He always gave me exelent advice for my car when I had a corvette.  He was definitely a goto person when the subject came up, but even more, he was just a great guy to talk to or be with. He will be greatly missed.

Mona, we are so sorry for your loss. Jim and I have shared so many memories with you both .  I especially remember our deep conversations with Steve regarding so many subjects and especially about enjoying the time we have in this life.  Steve has battled cancer for so long but has always remained positive and strong. He has touched so many lives and will always be in our hearts. We are sending you hugs, love and prayers. We will miss Steve and hope we will see you soon.

Sorry to hear of Steve's passing. He was always kind, friendly, had a smile on his face whenever we interacted. I always enjoyed our visiting. God Bless Steve and his family..

My message to Steve who I am convinced he is looking down at all of his friends and family now looking and understanding why some of his closest can’t make the trek from San Diego to his service.  Those Corvette Club folks both COSD and COCSD who are there for us are there for Mona and to remember Steve.  Steve I so much remember all the good time we had especially when you and Mona would attend the Big Bear bash and spend those weekends with us in the cabin.  Steve I will forever keep you on my book of memories.  A truer friend or friends are hard to find these days.  See you when!

I met Steve 12 years ago when he was referred to our dental office to help maintain his dental health after having oral cancer.  Since then, I have had the immense pleasure of getting to know this amazing man.  Steve always had a smile on his face and made you feel like he was so happy to see you.  In spite of his many years of battling cancer, he always remained positive and would state that others had it much worse.  I so admire Steve and have grown to love both Steve and his wife, Mona.  The heavens just received another beautiful angel.  I will miss him so much and feel so blessed that I had the opportunity to know such a wonderful man.  

Dear Uncle Steve:  I recall over thirty years ago you received your first diagnosis of this horrible disease called cancer.  You refused to succumb to it.  You my dear uncle fought the good fight!  I know after all this time any normal person would get tired of the fight.  I’m so proud of how long you stayed in the fight.  May you now rest in peace.  I am very thankful you no longer are suffering.  I shall miss my check ins where you sat and listened and commented in the background.  I shall remember all your words of wisdom! Steve was a genuine Corvette enthusiast and great Friend.  In 2003 he and Mona helped start Corvettes of San Diego along with Jo and Craig Heidman, Loretta and John Harry and my husband Paul and me.  He was an integral part of making the Club a success as the Club is about to celebrate its 20th year.  Even after moving to Colorado, Steve and Mona stayed members and involved in the Club.  When they would return to San Diego, we always gathered at Filippi's Pizza in Escondido to reunite with them.  It was their favorite place and they usually ordered pizza from there every Friday night.

The last time I saw Steve I had the pleasure of entering his stunning 2006  Corvette in the NCCC convention car show in Denver.  His car took first place in his class in the Concours category.  I will always cherish this memory.

We miss you, Steve, and you will remain in our heats and thoughts forever.  Hugs, Norma

  I remember first meeting Steve when we were members of COCSD in the late 80's.  We did a lot of shows together,  car  cleaning clinics and just had a great time doing what we loved, Corvettes.  That legacy carried over to COSD.  Steve and I always said the club was like family and even closer in many ways.  I feel like I have just lost a family member with  Steve's passing.   You were a wonderful man and friend.   It was a honor to know and have you as a friend.  I am sure if there is a corvette in Heaven,  you are showing it.  You will be sorely  missed my friend until we meet again.   May you RIP.

Steve was one of my "Best Friends" within the Corvette Clubs in San Diego, California. Steve was always up for a car show whether rain or shine. He and I judged at Corvette Shows together many times at these Corvette shows.

Steve's last Car Show accomplishment took  first place near Denver, Colorado where he won First Place  in Concours De Elegance  Class and "Best of Show"  during the Car show. 

Steve assisted in coordinating many  many Corvette Shows in and around San Diego for many years. 

Steve Lucero will be missed by many San Diego Corvette Clubs and their members.



To my Dear Friend and Corvette Brother, You will be truly missed. But your memory will live on. You will always be a member of The Corvettes Of San Diego. I appreciate and will miss our conversations and prayers. But those prayer will continue for Mona and your family.
