July 5, 1952 – May 11, 2025
Valerie Ann Medina born in Fort Garland, Colorado and most recently of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025 (Mother’s Day) surrounded by the love of her family. She fought a brave battle against cancer over the last year.
Valerie is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Jose Lino Medina; her two loving daughters, Dr. Christina Ann Medina and Jenny Medina; her adored granddaughter, Alexa Rodriguez; her sisters, Dorothy Ruibal and Glenda Vialpando; and her brother, Patrick Garcia and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the heart of her family—a beloved wife, nurturing mother, and proud grandmother. Valerie dedicated her life to those she loved, embodying grace, strength, and unwavering devotion. Her gentle spirit and steady presence left a lasting light in the lives of all who knew her. Even through her own struggles, she brought light and joy to the lives of others and made many friends along the way.
A devout Catholic, Valerie lived her faith through kindness, compassion, generosity, and prayer. She now joins her mother Della Garcia; father Celestino Garcia, and brothers Nick Garcia and Leo Garcia in eternal rest.
She will be remembered for her warm heart, beautiful smile, quiet but fierce strength, and the legacy of love that she leaves behind. Valerie aspired to become a public school teacher, and although her path led her to full-time motherhood, the one thing she said she always wanted, she never stopped teaching others through her words, actions, and faith. From a young age, she was known for her beautiful singing voice and spent many cherished moments singing alongside her father Celestino and brother Nick.
Although there will be no immediate public funeral services, a Catholic mass and memorial celebration will be held on what would have been her 73rd birthday, July 5, 2025 to honor her life and spirit (more information will be provided at a later time to family and friends).
Valerie found comfort and meaning in poetry and prayer. One of her favorite verses was from Robert Frost:
“The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.”
She often reminded her family, “The flowers may fade, your tears may dry, but a prayer for my soul will never die.” Her favorite flower was the daisy and her favorite prayer was the 23rd Psalm, “The Lord is my Shepherd.”
In remembrance of Valerie, her family invites you to hold her in your prayers and carry forward her legacy of love. We love you Mom a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck! We also know you love us more!
Condolences may be mailed to: 845 Lewis Dr., Lakewood, CO 80215.
