

Born January 1, 1924 to Albert and Bertha Kamrath in O’Brien County Iowa, Vernell attended elementary school in O’Brien County. He spent several years farming in Iowa, before entering the military in April, 1944. During World War II, Vern served in the European theatre in the 3rd Army under General George S. Patton until April, 1946. Vern was awarded the Purple Heart.
After his military service, he married Eleanor Schmeckpeper on June 15, 1947. They moved from Iowa to Colorado in April of 1954, raising four children in the city of Thornton. During this time Vern worked in dairy processing for Garden Farms, Sealest and Robinson daries.
Vern retired in 1986, and he and Eleanor took to the road in their motorhome. They traveled for the next 16 years, eventually visiting all 50 states.
Vern is survived by his wife Eleanor, son Steve (Angie), daughters Patsy, Pamela (Lance), Peggy (Ray), Paula (deceased), 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
