Virginia was the first daughter of Frank and Mary Shablo and was born on August 28th, 1937. She grew up in a small town in Southern Colorado called Sopris and shared her home with 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She attended Sopris High School, was a good student and honed her organizational skills as class secretary, then graduated in 1955. An academic scholarship was awarded for her to attend Trinidad State Junior College and she completed her education at Adams State College in Alamosa.
After graduation, Virginia connected with 4 of her friends from school and they all moved to Denver to start their teaching careers. She taught at Westminster Elementary and Sunset Ridge from 1960 till she retired in 1993. The girls roomed together until they each married.
Her future husband, Marvin Kingry came into the picture in those early years of teaching and rooming with her girlfriends. They met at the Safeway, Marvin was working at as a stock clerk on many of their grocery runs. They were married on August 21st, 1962. Together, they had two sons—Scott born in 1963 and Kelly who was born in 1966.
Marvin and Virgina were active in the Elks and would often attend gatherings and functions and occasionally help with bingo. They both took early retirements, bought a large 5th Wheel RV and took off traveling around the U.S. They traveled to all 50 states and many parts of Canada and enjoyed sharing their carefree lifestyle with good friends in this kind of community. They lived in the RV for 16 years until Marvin contracted cancer and passed away on July 1st 2008. They had a long and beautiful marriage and Virginia would often refer to Marvin as her one true love.
Over the next 15 years, Virgina would remain active and busy. Her Catholic faith was extremely important to her and she enjoyed volunteering at her parish when she could. She also daily prayed the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet. Her favorite hobby was bowling. She bowled on several leagues and up to four times a week practically all the way until she passed. It’s safe to say she was excellent with a high average and many 200 point games. She loved being a mother, a grandmother to Skyler and Shanna and a great grandmother to Santana, Roman and Ayla.
Virginia is survived by her sons, Scott and Kelly, grandson Skyler, wife Victoria and daughter Ayla and granddaughter Shanna and her children, Santana and Roman. She is survived by sister-in law Joyce Shablo and family. She is survived by brother Phil Shablo, wife Lynette and family. She is survived by brother Al Shablo, wife Carol and family.
