Clint Ryo Morinaka passed away of a heart attack at the age of 59 in Portland, Oregon. Born on April 1, 1963, he was the son of Roy Masaharu Morinaka and Doris Toshie Morinaka. Because of his quiet, humble nature, few people knew about Clint’s many skills and talents.
While living in Honolulu he attended Koko Head Elementary School, Niu Valley Intermediate School, and Kaiser High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Hawaii. A lifelong learner, he attended Portland Community College and received two Associate degrees: Associate of Applied Science Automotive Service Technology and Associate of General Studies. He also had training in the Certified Nursing Associate Program.
Clint was comfortable working at a variety of jobs. He began his career as a computer programmer for the State of Hawaii, and after moving to Portland he continued his work in computer programming for Nike. Then, when Y2K struck, he served as an independent computer consultant for a number of years. He later worked for Acura of Portland and for Mini (Cooper) of Portland — both as an automotive mechanic and in the parts department of Mini of Portland.
His interest in cars, motorcycles, trumpets, radio-controlled cars and airplanes, and his knowledge and skills allowed Clint to work on computers and to refurbish cars and motorcycles. He loved pets, and he and Sharon lovingly raised a number of guinea pigs as part of their family. Clint was also an excellent cook. He could always be counted on for his delicious apple pies and Hawaiian style macaroni/potato salad.
Family members and friends will remember him as their beloved right-hand man — conscientious and devoted.
Clint was preceded in death by his father, Roy Morinaka, and his mother, Doris (Noyama) Morinaka. He is survived by Sharon Morinaka (whom he met in the third grade at Koko Head Elementary School, his loving wife of 33 years and his best friend). He is also survived by his brother, Sean Morinaka; his paternal aunt, Carlene Yamamoto; and his mother-in-law, Gail Takaki. He is also survived by a large extended family and many friends.
A private memorial service is scheduled for January 28 at Young’s Funeral Home in Portland, Oregon.
