On October 26, 2011, Dean Harvey, 47 peacefully transitioned from his families loving embrace at his home in Tigard, Oregon into the arms of God in heaven. Dean passed away from the very rare brain illness, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
A native of Oahu, Hawaii, Dean graduated from Kamehameha High School and then attended Southern California College in Costa Mesa where he received his Bachelors degree in Marketing and Management. He was an amazing athlete and sports were his life's passion. He played basketball, football and baseball in high school, but baseball was his true love. Dean played baseball at Southern California College, where his team finished 4th in the College World Series in 1985 and then later was inducted into the University's Hall of Fame. Dean also played semi-pro baseball for a short period. Later in life, Dean became an avid golfer and it quickly became his favorite participant sport.
Dean lived his passion everyday, choosing a career in the Sporting Goods Industry that spanned 22 years. He worked at Nike, Inc., a company he loved, for the last 15 years in a variety of management roles that allowed him to travel the world, work closely with world class athletes and be a primary contributor to the start of both the Equipment and Golf businesses. Dean's career with Nike also provided an opportunity for he and his family to live in Tokyo, Japan where he managed Nike Golf for four years.
Dean was a man of deep and unwavering faith who loved his family beyond measure. Through his huge smile, warm heart and genuine caring nature, Dean had the unique ability to make everyone he came in contact with feel special. He was a man with strong values, integrity and an amazing inner strength. He had a unique combination of being very competitive and putting all he had into everything he did and at the same time, he was extraordinarily generous and kind hearted. Dean had a passion and enthusiasm for life that was as contagious as his laughter.
Remaining to carry forward Dean's amazing spirit is his wife and best friend, Kathi; their precious children, Dylan Malia and Justin; paternal grandmother, Polita Clark; his loving parents, Sam and Judy Harvey; sister, Lisa Keamo (Lawrence); brother, Duane Harvey (Muenca) and his numerous extended family and dear friends who have been such an amazing source of love and support throughout this journey.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, November 10, 2011, at Beaverton Foursquare Church, 13565 Walker Road, Beaverton, OR 97005.
