Ed Wagner passed away at the age of 96 on October 20, 2011 in Lake Oswego. He was born in the Dalles, Oregon, the youngest of eight children, to Joseph Wagner and Sarah Frances Good. His family moved to McMinnville where Ed attended St. James Catholic Grade School and McMinnville High School. In 1943, Ed married Barbara Jean Kreutzer of Sheridan, Oregon. Ed and “Bea” first made their home in McMinnville and later moved to Lake Grove. Together they had six children: Mike (Kathleen) of Seattle, Janet (Dan) Crider of Lake Oswego, Tim (Mary Jo) of Corvallis, Dan (Colleen) of Portland, Richard (who died in 2004), and Patty (Mike) Douglass of McMinnville. Ed and Bea shared 56 years of marriage at the time Bea’s death in 1999; together they have 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Ed served in the Navy during WWII on a U.S. Submarine. He held many jobs, including farming, and eventually retired from Textronix where he worked as a Machinist and Model Maker. Ed said he never held a job that he did not enjoy.
Ed was an avid gardener and was well know in his neighborhood for his lush vegetable garden, berries and apples. He made many acquaintances with people who would stop to chat while he worked outside, each person left with a gift of produce. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and eating a good piece of pie. People remember his quiet, kind nature and his willingness to lend a hand to his neighbor. He was a lifelong Catholic and a parishioner at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Oswego for 59 years.
