

Everett James Hooton was born on July 15, 1929 (in the Great Depression Era) in Kewanee, Illinois to his joyful parents George and Mollie (Frank) Hooton and older brother Tom. Everett preferred the name Jim, so that is the name he went by. He moved with his parents to Oregon at the age of 18.
He met his wonderful bride Marie Antoniette Manin on Memorial Day weekend 1951. They met at the Post Office in Glenlullen by Alpenrose where Marie got off the bus and got her mail. Jim asked her to a movie on Saturday, Marie said she would go with him if he would join her the next day Sunday for her family picnic at Avalon Park. And on July 29th, 2013 they will be married 62 years.
They had 4 children: Ed, Bill, Debbie and Rick. They adopted Cherie. He is a grandfather to 9 children and a great grandfather to 18 children. He is adored and loved by all of them.
He cracks jokes all the time and enjoys telling stories of his childhood and of his children’s lives. He always had a good time going to Reno with Marie and Marie’s brother Jack and his wife Dorothy Manin.
He took his family camping at Detroit Lake for great entertainment and took his sons fishing and bird hunting too. He helped start and coach for the Tigard Little League for 14 years. He coached all 3 of his sons in baseball. He looked forward to family get togethers and bar-b-ques.
He loved his flower and vegetable gardens and his lovable dog Freckles who of course adores and loves. him.
He provided for his family very well working at Alpenrose for 12 years starting out house to house as a milkman deliverer, then selling to stores. He worked 2 years for Kraft. Franz Bakery for 26 years always a top salesman winning many awards. He is a very people oriented person so he did very well working with his customers.
He brought up his family in the Catholic Church at St. Anthony’s in Tigard, Oregon. He joined the Knights of Columbus reaching Grand Knight status. He worked hundreds of Pancake Breakfasts, flipping those pancakes. He also worked at the Spaghetti Dinners and other fundraisers. He lived right across the street from the church and school so he had an ongoing relationship with the nuns fixing their broken down dishwasher and any other help they might need. Finally he convinced the Knights of Columbus to buy a new dishwasher for them!!!
Jim and Marie took in the first Catholic Charities foster child and they were foster parents for the Catholic Charities for 17 years.
Jim Hooton—son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend was full of unconditional love at its best. We will truly miss him.
