

Jack L. Baty died January 12,2017 at the age of 78. He was born Jan. 3, 1939, in Tillamook, Oregon to Charles B. Baty and Alma E. Cupp Baty. He descended from a pioneer family who settled in the Oregon Territory in 1845. Mr. Baty graduated from Tillamook High School. He attended Oregon State College, Portland State College and graduated from Marylhust University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. He served his country in the US Army during the post-Korean conflict era. Jack married Judith C. Baldwin of Rockaway Beach, Oregon, December 16, 1961. They moved to Portland in the same year and it has since been their home. They have two children, Michael and Katharine. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy; son Mike and wife Cindy; daughter Kathy and husband Tracy Clark; and grandchildren David, Beau, Alex, Blake, Madison and Tyler; and brothers Bob, Doug, Steve and Gene. Jack began his career in finance and banking in Portland in 1961, having been an officer or officer manager of several different companies. In 1970 he began his permanent career as Founder and President of Baty Construction Co., Hallmark Homes and Service Realty Corp. He was elected President of Portland Home Builders Assn. in 1990, and served on the Board of Directors of the National Assoc. of Home Builders in Washington D.C. Since retirement in 2000, he has served as a volunteer tour guide at Shriners Hospital for Children and as a Planning Commissioner for Washington County. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Friday 1/20 at 12:00 PM with a reception to follow at the Al Kader Shrine Center in Wilsonville.
