John L. Foy, 51, caring brother and dear friend passed away December 30, 2011 in Portland, Oregon. His brother and close friends were there by his side. John passed quickly and peacefully following an acute illness.
John was born November 22, 1960 in Anchorage to John “Jack” Foy and Dorothy. Growing up in a military family, John spent most of his childhood in Hawaii where he graduated from Punahou School. John returned to Oregon to attend Lewis and Clark College graduating in 1983.
College behind him and ready to face the world ahead, John started his career at Tektronix in 1983. John spent over 16 years at Tektronix including several years in their Germany and UK offices. In 2002, John returned to Oregon and joined Merant as Finance Manager where he stayed until 2004. In 2004 he joined Marqui as Director of Finance, and then in 2006 he joined Digimarc as their Finance, Planning and Analysis Manager.
At Digimarc, John‘s talents were quickly recognized, and in 2007 he assumed the position of Controller. John was instrumental in Digimarc’s efforts to improve accounting and internal controls, spin out the ID division, and re-launch the new Digimarc in 2008 following the sale of the ID division to L1 Identity Solutions. His efforts to strengthen Digimarc’s financial planning and analyses, provide timely management reports, promptly close quarters, and improve our financial reporting will serve as enduring legacies of his time there. To those at Digimarc he was affectionately known as Mr. Foy or John “T” Foy (“T” for trouble!).
John was an intensely private person, and an exceptionally good and decent man. He was a loving brother, valued friend, mentor, and trusted colleague. John had an extremely positive attitude and cheerful outlook. He was loved by many and will be truly missed. John is survived by his brother Alex Yucker from Beaverton, Oregon.
