Judy Daniels (Judith Ann Quirk) passed away unexpectedly in her home on May 1st, 2020, she will be deeply missed by her family. Born May 11, 1940 in Providence Rhode Island to Mary and Raymond Quirk. Preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Peter F. Daniels, her mother Mary Goodwin (Reilly/Quirk), father Raymond Quirk, step-father Elwood Goodwin, beloved uncle Joseph Reilly, and her brother Ray Quirk of Blackstone Massachusetts.
Judy and Pete, married in Cranston, Rhode Island in February 1963, and moved to Michigan where Pete had a job and they welcomed their first son, Brian. They returned to RI and added to their family with Anne, Michael and Megan. After Pete graduated RISD in 1972, Pete and Judy embarked on a great adventure out west, joining Judy’s childhood friend Susan Van Lente (Hines), whom she shared 73 years of kinship and sisterhood.
Judy quickly established strong community ties, joining the League of Women voters where she made lifelong friends, volunteering as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader in all her children’s troops at Palisades Elementary and Our Lady of the Lake schools, and as a Camp Counselor at Camp Kerr. Pete and Judy together enjoyed bowling and bridge leagues, Judy continued playing cards after Pete’s passing, in a women’s league with a group of close friends. Beginning in the early 1980’s she began working first at June’s Fabric, followed by a long career at First Interstate and Wells Fargo banks as a teller and loan officer at branches in Lake Grove, Tualatin and Lake Oswego. Retiring in the early 2000’s, keeping herself busy helping out with her grandchildren, who brought her great pride and joy.
Judy is survived by her children and grandchildren; son Brian Daniels, his wife Patricia, of Lake Oswego and their daughters Emma Daniels, Laura Warnock and Amy Warnock; Anne Daniels Merletti and her husband Rob of Kenosha, WI, her children Peter Kegerreis, Erin Kegerreis and Rachel Kegerreis; Michael Daniels his wife, Kimberly, of Washougal, WA and their children, Conor, Andrew and Kaeli; and Megan Daniels, her husband, Mike Arace of West Linn and their son Ike.
Judy and Pete were equals, the partnership in her marriage demonstrated the importance of independence, strength, and confidence in yourself but knowing when to ask for support. As a mother she was always there - at all the events, she laughed freely - at times silly, was tough but fair, was direct but genuinely caring. She instilled all these values and more in her children and grandchildren, expecting they always do their best in whatever path chosen.
The Daniels family looks forward to gathering with friends and family to celebrate Judy’s life and legacy later in the summer when the risk to the health and safety of our community is reduced. In her memory, we encourage each of us to VOTE and give to charitable organizations that support the causes and issues important to you.
