Marcus (Mark) Jay Schrader was born February 25, 1955, in Myrtle Point, Oregon, and passed away on November 8, 2024, in Tualatin, OR. Mark grew up in Coquille, Oregon, and after graduation from Coquille High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country for 4 years. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, Okinawa, El Toro, and other military locations. Mark was trained to be an aircraft machinist and was a perfectionist in his skill, and always did excellent, top-notch work. When talking with fellow Marines, they shared their own special language, and when speaking with veterans from other branches of service, he never let them forget that Marines were the country's finest.
Mark and Roberta met in February of 1980, while they were both attending Portland State University. After meeting, Roberta realized Mark excelled in math, so she asked him to tutor her and he gladly accepted the challenge. That was the beginning of a dedicated and loving relationship that lasted over 44 years.
On November 6, 1982, Mark and Roberta were united in marriage at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, Iowa. God blessed Mark and Roberta with 6 wonderful children. Mark worked at Hewlett-Packard for a number of years, then in 2010, he started his own business. Life was wonderful because he was working from home and could spend so much more time with his family. He was always busy doing machining projects, household repairs or whatever needed to be done. Mark was so proud of his kids and especially loved it when opportunities came up to spend time with them, whether it was having meals together, getting together for coffee, helping them move, household repairs at Amanda’s home or working with Nathan and Christian building outside stairs. He also loved hearing about Lauren's, Justin's, Austin's, Nathan's, and Amanda's studies, careers, travel adventures and their life aspirations. He was so happy to be sitting together in church with Amanda, Nathan, Alexa, and Christian. He loved the Bible teachings there, and was excited to begin to volunteer at Athey Creek Church.
Mark and Roberta loved going to the beach and he would say quite frequently to Roberta, "are we going to play today?" The best part of the drive was their conversations and spending time together. This past summer, they went back to Iowa for Roberta’s class reunion in June, and then returned to Iowa in October, staying with Roberta's mother, Virginia, and brothers, Tom and Ronnie. Mark was happy and thoroughly enjoyed this time with family in Iowa and he was already planning their next visit. Mark is survived by his wife, Roberta, and their 5 children: Nathan (Alexa) and grandson Christian, of Wilsonville, OR, Amanda, of Tigard, OR, Justin, of Seattle, WA, Austin, of Portland, OR, and Lauren, of Portland, OR.
Mark is also survived by his mother-in-law, Virginia Crozier, of Adair, IA, his brother, Skip (Gail) Schrader, of Bend, OR, his sisters, Jan (Dan) Grumbling, of Beaverton, OR, and Cindy (Jeff) Lopez, of Tualatin, OR, his sisters-in-law, Raymona Crozier, of Persia, IA, and Barb Pilcher, of Ankeny, IA, brothers-in-law, Norm Crozier, of Council Bluffs, IA, Tom Crozier, of Adair, IA, Galen Crozier (Mary), of Corning, IA, Ronnie Crozier, of Ankeny, IA, and Dennis Hoffman, of Omaha, NE. He is also survived by his uncle, Chuck Schrader (Kathy), of Dallas, OR, and his aunt, Martha Bright, of Coos Bay, OR, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and his many friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his son, Adam, parents, Chris and Janet Schrader, father-in-law, Ralph Crozier, brothers-in-law, Greg Crozier and Ron Pilcher, and sister-in-law, Colleen Hoffman.
Mark was a devoted and loving husband and father. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior in 1986 and was baptized in 1987. After losing their son, Adam, in 2023, he told Roberta his main goal for the rest of his life was to see his family members, friends, and any acquaintances come to know Jesus as their personal Savior, so they would spend eternity in heaven when they passed from this earth. We miss him so much, but we are thankful that he is in heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
