

Norman Paulson passed away on September 23, 2011, at the age of 93. Born in Moscow, Idaho to Gust and Charlotte Paulson, he grew up in Silverton, graduating from Silverton High School in 1936, and Oregon State College, School of Engineering in 1942. He married Shirley Tamson Ashbaugh of Corvallis in 1943.
He was a World War II Army Veteran serving as a Captain in the China-Burma-India Theater. In 1946 he and Shirley settled in Salem and he was employed as an Electrical Engineer with Portland General Electric Company. He retired in 1980 as the Portland Division’s Chief Distribution Engineer. He was a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Professional Engineers of Oregon, and the Northwest Electric Light and Power Association.
As a local pilot and airplane owner, he and his wife Shirley enjoyed many years of flying around the western states together.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in 2007. He is survived by his three children; Eric Paulson (Susan), Linda Barkus, and Kristine Gates (Richard); seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 30, at the Valley View Cemetery in Silverton, Oregon. Arrangements are by Young’s Funeral Home.
