Bob was born on October 22, 1920 in Des Moines, Iowa to Clyde R. Boleyn and Blanche (Shoemaker) Boleyn. Bob’s mother died when he was only 5 years old, so he and his younger brother, Dale, were raised by his maternal grandmother and aunts. Bob moved to Oregon in 1934 along with his father and attended Benson High School studying electronics, graduating in 1939. Bob entered the army in 1940 and was released in late 1941 until Pearl Harbor was struck. Then he was called back into the army in 1942 and served in the Signal Corps of the US Army’s Third Division in World War II in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Germany and Austria until the war ended in 1945.
On returning to Portland, Bob married the “girl next door”, Lydia Louise Hanchett on October 28, 1945. He and Lydia built their home in Metzger and had three boys – Ronald, Douglas, and Norman.
Bob worked as an electronics technician during the 1950’s, servicing car radios and building industrial control systems. In the early 1960’s he went to work for Tektronix in Beaverton, where he spent the rest of his working career, retiring in 1982. He and his wife, Lydia continued to live in their home in Metzger until Lydia passed away in 1990 at the age of 69.
Three years later, in 1993, he married Eunice Ficke/Hundley, with whom Bob had a lengthy second marriage. Eunice passed away in December, 2012 at the age of 100. His only brother, Dale Phillip Boleyn, passed away in Illinois in 2013 at the age of 87.
Bob was a long-time licensed “Ham” Amateur radio operator (W7ATI) and maintained contacts with his Third Division buddies, especially in the Signal Corps. He enjoyed car trips, working in the yard, and until he was 90 years old, continued to get out on his bicycle for a ride, just like he did as a teenager.
Bob is survived by his three sons, Ronald (Linda), Douglas (Emily), and Norman (Candy), six grandchildren – Erich (Tamairah), Lisa, Elena (Nathan) Ross, Forrest, Bryce (Ahnjene), Holly (Matt) Satterlee, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Bob was a long time member of Metzger Methodist Church until it disbanded in 2013.
Graveside services will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 11 am.
