

Simone Marie-Therese Loranger, age 89, passed away with the comfort of family by her side on September 25, 2023, in Portland, Oregon. She was born on October 7, 1933, in Faymont, a small village in Northeastern France to Eugene and Marthe Fleurot.
Simone was a vibrant and sociable woman who loved to engage in conversation. She had a keen intuition and a remarkable memory, which endeared her to her family and friends. Known for her sharp wit and strong opinions, she never hesitated to share her thoughts. She brought laughter and shared endless stories about her life with friends and family.
Simone met her husband, Joseph Loranger, while working for the US Army in Nancy, France. She was responsible for translating contracts for the sales of arms, while Joe served as an officer. They married in Nancy in 1956 and later moved to Portland, Oregon, where Joe had previously lived. Simone found fulfillment working at the flagship Meier & Frank store, where she eventually transitioned to the crystal and fine china department, a role that suited her perfectly.
Simone was a member of the Portland French Club. Foremost, she enjoyed cooking and baking for her loved ones & found great pleasure in preparing dinners and hosting gatherings with family and friends. Simone had a deep love for history and biographies, often immersing herself in books on these subjects. She also cherished her French TV station, which connected her to her beloved home country.
Simone had a passion for the outdoors and the mountains, finding solace in the natural beauty of Oregon, which reminded her of her birthplace. In her younger years, she enjoyed skiing and biking. Time spent in Sunriver held a special place in her heart. It was a location filled with cherished memories for Simone and her family.
Simone is survived by her daughter, Joanne Welch; grandson, Brennan Welch; son, John Loranger; son-in-law, Jeff Galligan; nephew, Olivier Fleurot; sister-in-law, Marie-Claire Fleurot; sister, Christiane Fleurot; Rene & Jacqueline Colnot & Family; and her friends at Avamere in Sherwood, where she resided. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Marthe Fleurot, and her husband, Joseph Loranger.
Simone's infectious laughter, sharp mind, and vibrant spirit will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.
She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Willamette National Cemetery.
