Tex graduated from Oregon State College and received a Bachelor of Science degree. He played basketball during his time at Oregon State, and recently, Tex and his team were inducted into the OSU Hall of Fame.
On Aug. 28, 1955, he married Kit Whiteman. Tex worked as a high school teacher and coach at Tigard High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and the Oregon National Guard. He had a passion for golf, hunting, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and reading.
Tex is survived by his wife Kit; daughters Vicki (John) Knez and Debbie Wingfield; son Ted (Brenda) Whiteman; grandchildren John S. Knez III, Alicia (David) Dragicevic, Jared (Kira) Wingfield, Brandan (Jenna) Whiteman, and Kevin (Kat) Whiteman; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters Nedra Hathaway and Shirley (Gary) Woodring.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 29 at 11 a.m. at Grace Point Community Church, 11075 SW Gaarde St., Tigard, OR 97224.
