Virginia Ann Sunken passed away peacefully at home, with family by her side, on February 7, 2026. Born March 13, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa, she was the beloved child of Lula Olivia Yates Halbert and James Walter Halbert.
After graduating from Red Oak High School in Iowa, she married Tony Sunken, her high school sweetheart. Virginia and Tony moved to San Diego, CA where Tony was stationed in the U.S. Navy. Virginia and Tony were married for over 60 years.
Over the span of 60 years, Virginia lived in San Diego, CA, Long Beach, CA, Huntington Beach, CA, Guam, Lake Oswego and Tigard, OR.
Virginia loved caring for her family, friends and animals, traveling the world, flying planes, sailing, and gardening. She loved life and lived life to the fullest touching so many lives. She lived a life filled with love, kindness, courage, compassion, dignity, gratitude, grace and blessings.
Virginia worked as a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker in San Diego, CA and enjoyed a successful career in real estate.
She carried a steady gratitude for life and was recently quoted saying, “It’s a great time to be alive.”
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Michelle Sunken of Tigard, OR; son Richard Sunken (Debbie) of Red Feather Lakes, CO; and granddaughter, Dana Mursu of Molalla, OR.
A committal service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on February 18, 2026 at 12:45 pm.
