In 1959, Widad married Nazih Awad and relocated with him to Kuwait, where he worked. Her first job was a kindergarten teacher, Widad was loved by her students and stayed in that job for 10 years. Despite leaving her teaching career to care for her four children, she found innovative ways to support her family. She worked with mail order catalogs for Quelle & Otto, pioneering in a field akin to today’s online shopping.
The family enjoyed a vibrant life in Kuwait, enriched by close friends and family. They enjoyed several activities like picnics, swimming, and card games. However, in 1991, just before the onset of the Gulf War, they migrated to Jordan, where they lived for four years before relocating again to Oregon in 1995, marking the fourth move of her life.
In Oregon, Widad embraced her new environment with determination. She delightfully attended ESL classes and proudly obtained her driver's license. Known for her independence, She enjoyed shopping and cherished visiting her friends.
Widad's life was not as easy as other mothers. Her responsibilities as a mother were challenging and demanding. Her devotion to her family was profound and her children always came first.
Widad is survived by her four children; Nassim, Hala, Jumana and Majid. And four grandchildren; Issa, Fadi, Nezar & Danna who were the light of her life.
In her final months, Widad was surrounded by her loved ones, who gathered to bid farewell to a remarkable woman. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
