The family moved to the Chico, CA area when Helen was young. In 1937, she and Tillman Cornelius were married and settled in Shafter (near Bakersfield). They moved to Fresno, where they owned a farm and Helen worked on the line at Sun-Maid. Upon retirement, she moved to Santa Maria, CA.
She and Tillman enjoyed taking long walks together, especially in their later years, and she was always active in her local Nazarene church. Helen liked playing cards, especially Skip-Bo, and she and Tillman loved tending to their garden and their flowers. Many friends and family will always treasure the items she crocheted just for them – bedspreads, tablecloths, and baby clothes in particular. Helen loved her family and her grandchildren, and always spent as much time with them as she could.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Tillman Cornelius, and by her twelve brothers and sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory
her daughter Barbara Garner and husband Ron of Beaverton,
grandchildren Tamara Robinson and husband Craig of Gold Hill, OR and their children Christopher and Alex, and Timothy Garner and wife Mari of Camas, WA and their children Sarah and Lauren.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Young’s Funeral Home in Tigard. Interment at Shafter Memorial Park in Shafter, CA will be private.
