On April 12, 2026, Aida N. Roig passed away peacefully at the age of 96. Aida was born on December 26, 1929, in Puerto Rico, and lived a life rooted in love, creativity, and quiet strength. She was the devoted wife of the late Dr. Ramon F. Roig, Jr., for almost 70 years, and together they raised four children. She was immensely proud of her family and cherished every moment spent with them.A true partner in life and adventure, Aida shared a deep love of travel with her husband. It was on a university trip to Spain in 1952 that their love story began—a story that would carry them through a lifetime of cherished memories. Together, they explored the world, visiting destinations such as Alaska, the Greek Isles, Europe, Egypt and The Caribbean. They also found great joy at Tranquility, their beautiful summer cabin on Lake Opinicon in Ontario, Canada, a special place filled with treasured family moments.
Aida had a remarkable gift for nurturing life, most especially reflected in her extraordinary talent for growing African violets and a wide variety of other plants. Her home and gardens were filled with vibrant blooms, each one a testament to her patience, care, and natural touch. Her love extended beyond plants to animals, especially dogs, who were her constant companions and brought her great joy. She possessed a gentle spirit that made both people and animals feel instantly at ease. However, while she was known to have saved the lives of several squirrels, she was always super scared of snakes!
For many years, she served as a dedicated Girl Scout leader alongside her daughters, shaping the lives of countless young girls through her guidance, kindness, and steady example. She also found great happiness in sewing, where her creativity and attention to detail were evident in everything she made.
Outside the home, Aida worked for the Baltimore County Library and several non-profit organizations. It was the years working at The Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart that brought her joy. She assisted the President and the other sisters translating prayers from English to Spanish to further their work in Puerto Rico and South America. From her time there she developed enduring friendships that lasted to her final days.
Aida will be remembered for her nurturing spirit, her creativity, her dedication to others, and the quiet beauty she brought into the world. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the gardens she grew, and the love she gave so freely.
She is survived by her daughters, Aida Esther Roig-Compton (Peter) and Carmen Roig Cockey (Chris); her sons, Ramon Fernando Roig III (Stacey) and José Oscar Roig (Kristen); and her grandchildren, Miles L.
