It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Albert "Al" Heinbaugh, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and beloved great-grandfather. Al passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Al dedicated 37 years of his life to serving his community as a Baltimore City Police Officer. Rising to the rank of Sergeant, he was also a skilled hostage negotiator, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to public safety. Even in retirement, Al's strong work ethic and desire to stay busy led him to continue working at Orioles and Ravens games, a pastime he truly enjoyed.
Al found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. He treasured every moment spent with his family, especially his great-grandchildren in recent years. He looked forward to camping trips, where he could relax and unwind, and his annual hunting trip was a cherished highlight, famously filled with his favorite treats: plenty of ice cream and Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. A true homebody at heart, Al loved watching old Westerns and was an avid fan of the Orioles and Ravens, cheering them on with enthusiasm.
Known for his playful spirit, Al loved to joke around and tease people, always bringing a smile to those around him. He possessed a legendary appetite, never backing down from the challenge of a 32-oz steak. Those who knew him well will remember his unique culinary preferences—often enjoying a mix of beer, ice cream, and olives.
Al is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Linda J. Heinbaugh. He was a devoted father to Susan Johnson, Brian Heinbaugh, and his wife Dawn, and Carol Rook and her husband Glenn. He was a dear brother to Mildred "Millie" Neal and Thelma Horn and her husband, Freddie. Al cherished his grandchildren: C. Anthony Smith Jr. (and his wife Melanie), Brandi Tanasescu (and her husband Dustin), Ciara Rook, Alyssa Heinbaugh, Ashley Heinbaugh, and Aidan Heinbaugh. He adored his great-grandchildren: Lilah, Camden, Eleanor, Leane, Cody, Dylan, and Alexander. His legacy of dedication, humor, and simple joys will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
