I just saw that Dr. Wallace passed away last year.  I majored in Speech & Drama at then Towson State College from 1970-1974. He taught a course called General Semantics using a text called People in Quandaries.  It was a life changing course for me and dramatically challenged and broadened my sheltered beliefs about relating to people with diverse backgrounds and understandings. I still have the textbook and what I learned from him continues to be helpful in all aspects of my life and relationships. 

Dr Wallace was the reason for my enrolling in the Speech Pathology program at Towson. I was in the Early Childhood program and he saw me registering for classes at registration. He guided me to his registration table and explained the program. Next thing I knew I was switching majors and I am still practicing 50 years later. Thank you Dr Wallace. 

On Bill’s birthday, today, I remember that he introduced me to my first ASHA conference in 1966 in D.C.   In 1970, at ASHA in NYC, I accompanied him to Bergdorf Goodman’s to buy Mary a gift.  When I walked into Rec Hall for a concert, there were Greg and Toni with huge smiles. Mary gave Adam his first haircut and his first egg nog. When Jenna was old enough to answer the phone, she would always recognize Bill’s voice and say, “ Dad, it’s Bill Wallace.” During the renovation of Van Bokkelen,  Vic was describing the mulberry tree from his window. Adam asked, “A Bill-Mary  tree?”  More than 20 years ago as Jenna and I were driving to a bridal shower in Baldwin, she said, “ This is the way to the Wallace’s.” And do you not always smile when someone talks about Las Vegas?  I value the memories that I have and the impact that Bill and Mary have had on my life.  I would not be in Baltimore if it were not for Bill. May his memory always be for a blessing.  

Bill Wallace was a beloved family member and friend. He was admired by his students and Faculty with whom he served.                                   
     I remember his passion for creating.  He loved spending time  making  woven baskets and beautiful Christmas Stockings. We have many examples of his work in our home. We all miss you Bill. Rest in Peace.

My heart is so heavy tonight as I’m learning of the loss of such a wonderful mam and mentor.  Bill had such a positive impact upon me and my career for so many years.  As an undergraduate student at Towson University,  Bill guided my decision to become a speech-language pathologist from the onset.  He was my travel companion to several ASHA national conventions.  He assured my worried parents that he would be watching over me as their first daughter went off to college and to a  few national conventions in my role on the board of directors for the national student organization. He took me out for my first drink when I turned 21 at one of those national conventions.  He served at the supervisor of my Clinical Fellowship Year  in my first job after completing graduate school.   He visited me several times in my position as a speech-.language pathologist at Jacksonville Elementary School and ALWAYS encouraged me to be the very best that I could be in my career and in life.   Bill was the absolute definition of a valued mentor and friend, and I will truly miss his presence in my life.  My deepest condolences to Mary, Toni, and the rest of his family.  Thank you for sharing him with so many students and other professionals in his field.   

I will always remember Dr. Wallace as the reason for many of my memories as an SLP.  He was the reason I found out about the Profession of Speech Pathology back in the days of paper and pencil class registration

 Speech Pathology registration with puzzlement! He waved me over to his table and explained the profession and the disorders SLPs they were trained to help. That day was the start of my love for my life's profession! He also introduced me to leadership and convention attendance. He taught my first class at Towson State and often guided me through the process of my Bachelor and Master's degree. He will forever be remembered 

Bill Wallace, a man of great integrity and character.  A family member for 70 years.  He was the guy you could always call on to help with anything and he would be right at our back door.  We traveled together, attended Bible Study together, created incredible family dinners, attended weddings, family reunions and funerals together.  He was a brother and a friend.  His journey took him from Kentucky, a suburb of Detroit to Kansas, Korea, back to Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Maryland, every step of the way improving himself and the people around him.  He was a patriot, a veteran, an educator.  He worked his way through a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. with Mary by his side encouraging and working right with him to see him realize the next accomplishment.  He left us just before his 92nd birthday and his 70th wedding anniversary.  He left us with such beautiful, incredible remembraces through his extraordinary skills of weaving and basket making and Christmas stockings and a Ginger Bread House, all so beautiful, and I was the recipient of the Piece d' Resistance, a Nantucket Baby Cradle.  I can never say in words what it meant to me to receive this, what it continues to mean to me.  Bill was a one-of-a-kind man, a Renaissance man really with knowledge, expertise and skills in so many things.   The world truly misses men like this when they pass on.  He was someone who, not only I will miss, my family will miss and surely his wife, daughter and grands and a cadre of nieces and nephews will miss. Life for this humble man had become difficult and filled with struggle and challenges, so I know he was welcomed home as any man who led such a good life would be, with the open arms of heaven before him.  Angels rejoicing.   Rest in Peace, beloved Bill.   

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Bill on Nantucket. He was a kind, funny and sweet man. Looking at the ladybug he made me always makes me think of him. Sending prayers and support for all of you.
