Dave was born in Baltimore on March 16, 1938. He grew up in Baltimore as the youngest of three children and learned to love all things Baltimore. He graduated from Saint Charles Junior Seminary. From there he studied at a seminary in France before returning to the United States, completing his degree at Loyola College, and going to work for Bell Atlantic.
Dave had many passions, but chief among them was his passion for learning. He was an avid historian and dedicated countless hours volunteering his time and experience at the Baltimore Basilica, the USS Constellation, the Maryland Science Center and the Catholic Church. Of course, nothing could compare to his excitement talking about his favorite Baltimore sports teams (Colts, Ravens, and his true love for the Orioles).
Dave was a treasured member of the Baltimore community and the Catholic Community of Saint Francis Parrish. Faith and family were always his mainstays, and he will be sorely missed. David was predeceased by his parents John Terrance and Dorothy Alice McHugh, along with his sister Eleanor Ahearn. He is survived by his brother Thomas McHugh of Alexandria, Virginia, along with numerous nieces and nephews with whom he was very close.
A funeral mass celebrating David’s life will be held on April 26, 2025, at 10am at Stella Maris, 2300 Dulaney Valley Road, Timonium, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to either the Stella Maris Catholic Charities or the Basilica of Baltimore.
